August 2015
Dear Friends of The Antioch Partners (TAP),

Greetings in Christ! Though you wouldn’t know it from our weather here in Houston (hot, humid, and more hot), fall is almost here. As is life for many of you, that means the pace of all things related to TAP is about to go into hyper-drive. We’re excited about all God is doing, and excited about what we believe God is going to do this fall. Your engagement in all this is vitally important … through prayer, hands-on assistance, encouragement, financial support (of Partners serving through TAP, of TAP, etc.), and many other ways.

Partner Focus: Kyle and Emily Hamilton

As from day one, TAP’s primary focus is serving our Partners (Partners is the term we use for missionaries) and the local Presbyterian churches that are sending them. I want to introduce you to two Partners, Kyle and Emily Hamilton. Kyle and Emily are serving in The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Their home church is Blacknall Presbyterian Church in Durham, North Carolina. One of Blacknall’s global partners is a ministry in the DRC called Congo Initiative (congoinitiative.org). Congo Initiative (CI) was founded by David and Kassie Kasali; Congolese Christian leaders who are passionate about seeing the gospel of Jesus Christ transform their country. Through Blacknall, Kyle and Emily became involved with CI, and eventually discerned God’s call to move to Beni and join the CI team.

With the affirmation and support of their church leaders, Kyle and Emily were accepted by TAP. This began their journey of developing their support team, getting necessary training, preparing for an international move, saying goodbye to family and friends, and then moving to Beni in May of this year. Kyle and Emily are strong followers of Jesus who are deeply committed to incarnational ministry. Even so, the challenges of adjusting to life and ministry in Beni have been real (language learning, culture learning, functioning in an environment where violent conflict is a regular part of life, etc.). But, they know they are where God has called them to be, and CI is excited to have them on their team.

Kyle and Emily are great examples of the kinds of people TAP is privileged to serve, and Blacknall is a great example of the kind of churches TAP is privileged to support in the sending process. If you’d like to know more about Kyle and Emily, you can check out their blog (congozawadi.org).

Our First Partner Retreat and an Opportunity for You

One passion we all share here at TAP is the passion to see all the Partners thriving in their places of ministry, and a special gathering this fall will be strategic in this regard. This gathering will be our first partner retreat which will take place at the end of October in Thailand. You might remember we’ve mentioned this retreat before, and now it’s almost here. I’m deeply grateful for Anne and John Wheeler-Waddell and the retreat planning team that has been preparing for the retreat for over a year. I’m also grateful for many of you (both churches and individuals) who have been praying for the retreat, have contributed financially, etc. I encourage you to keep praying with us for the retreat. The dates of the retreat are Oct 22 – 28. We need additional prayer warriors who will join with many others who are lifting up every aspect of the retreat in prayer. Pray for safe, problem-free travel as Partners gather from around the world, pray for the retreat speaker (the theme will be “Nurturing Resiliency”), pray for our times of worship (Tara Chase from PFF will be our worship leader), pray for encouragement and rest, and pray for fun and rich fellowship. We believe God wants to use this retreat in a significant way in the lives of all the Partners, Partners like Kyle and Emily.

In addition to praying for the retreat, if you sense God’s leading and want to contribute financially, that would be a huge blessing. A donor has given a matching grant to help us raise the remaining $40,000 we need. You can give online by clicking here (select “Partner retreat” on the drop down menu under, “Please direct my donation to:") or you can mail a check (note on memo line of check it is for “Partner retreat”) to:

Join Us for a Unique Dinner Event!

TAP’s third annual dinner event will be here in Houston on September 17th at 6:30 pm at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. This is a great way to learn more about TAP, learn about places in the world where Partners are serving, have fun giving to TAP, enjoy great food and music, etc. If you’d like to come, we have a seat for you! You can register online by clicking here. If you can’t be there in person, but want to participate by giving, you do that clicking here (donation options available on the registration page).

Most of all, on behalf of the entire TAP community, thanks for participating in God’s mission in the world through your engagement with TAP!

Gratefully in Christ,
