April 2016
Less than two months until the 87th Wisconsin FFA Convention!

What qualities will you show people today? Who will you be for them tomorrow? The theme of the 87th Wisconsin FFA Convention is "Be FFA" and encourages all of us to exemplify the characteristics that are FFA: loyal, hard-working, honest and caring of others.

We're excited to share yet another year of student achievements, honor adults who give their all to FFA, and also recognize the donors that make so much of this possible.

Please consider joining us June 13-16 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. A detailed schedule of events can be found online at www.wisconsinffa.org, and you can personalize your convention itinerary on the Wisconsin FFA Foundation website, here.

Rural Mutual
Insurance Company

In the coming years, projections indicate there will be no shortage of employment opportunities in the agricultural industry. Organizations like the National FFA Organization and the Wisconsin FFA Foundation, with the help of Rural Mutual Insurance Company, understand this ever-increasing need for young men and women to step up and become leaders in agriculture.

“The National FFA Organization and the Wisconsin FFA Foundation are preparing young men and women to take a vital role in this important industry,” says Peter J Pelizza, executive vice president and CEO of Rural Mutual Insurance Company. “The Wisconsin FFA Foundation provides leadership conferences, conventions, career development events, and other programs to help these students excel in agricultural careers. Becoming a member of FFA means providing a path for personal growth and career success through agricultural education.”

In addition, Pelizza says that Rural Mutual’s support for the National FFA Organization and the Wisconsin FFA Foundation also stems from the organizations’ enthusiasm and ability to educate the general public about the agricultural industry.

“Rural Mutual has proudly been a Star Mission Partner for the past three years and counting, because of the FFA’s tremendous contributions to the agricultural industry,” says Pelizza. “There is no doubt that agriculture will be strengthened tomorrow because of the leaders cultivated today.”

Rural Mutual, the leading writer of farm insurance in Wisconsin, is committed to helping young men and women prepare for a future in the agricultural industry. The company also supports the Wisconsin FFA Foundation as a Convention Partner, golf outing sponsor and Annual Fund donor.

Dear Friend of the Wisconsin FFA Foundation,

To say the last month has been busy is an understatement. Are you with me?! I can imagine our agricultural instructors, FFA advisors and all those prepping for spring planting are feeling the same thing. For us at the Wisconsin FFA Foundation, we're in the midst of summer planning. In less than two months, we'll be celebrating the achievements of FFA members around the state at the 87th Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison, followed closely by our three annual golf outings and we're even throwing in a Madison Mallards' game too!

Summer is fun in Wisconsin regardless of the amount we cram into it because we have only a few short months to enjoy the sun. For us, however, it's a time to honor you, our donors and supporters that make the other months of FFA activities a possibility. My favorite part of State Convention is seeing new donors' faces light up when they realize the impact support dollars have on the actual FFA members. At that moment, a donation becomes more than just a check with a signature, but a real-life person. It's just exciting to see!

As we continue through the flurry of summer preparations, let's remember we're not alone or without purpose. We all are working toward a common goal - to care for our families and communities today and set foundations to care for them tomorrow. Thank you for joining me in this endeavor, and I look forward to seeing you all in June! If you've never been to Convention, I encourage you to think about taking some time from that busy schedule to do so. I guarantee you won't regret it.

Supervised Agricultural Experiences: dairy, beef and goat production

I grew up a few miles outside the city limits of Chilton with my parents and three older sisters. At the age of 7, my sisters and I were given the opportunity to show dairy cattle at our county fair for a local family friend. Since then I've shown dairy heifers at the county and state fairs, beef cattle at county, state and national levels, and I've worked for LaClare Goat Farms for four years.

As a freshman in high school, joining FFA was a no-brainer, but I never realized exactly how far FFA would take me. It didn't take long for me to call the ag room my home and the FFA my family. I competed in speaking contests and and career development events, as well as attended leadership conferences all four years of high school, each time falling in love with the organization more and more.

Serving as a State FFA Officer this year has allowed me opportunities I wouldn't change for anything. One of these has been meeting many of FFA's most supportive sponsors. Some of my favorite memories this year include the great conversations I've had with the adults who sponsor and support this organization.

I received a scholarship from the Wisconsin FFA Foundation my senior year and was extremely grateful for it. However, as I began to meet these sponsors, I realized just how lucky each of us FFA members are to be supported by such outstanding people.

Thee FFA experience is one I wouldn't trade for anything. I know I have grown immensely by being a member and it has been a true honor watching others do the same.
