´╗┐Donors give $550,000+ in 2014-15
campaign year! Thank you!
The Wisconsin FFA Foundation has achieved another record fundraising year in its 2014-15 campaign, raising a total of $555,496.07 – over 10 percent more than last year and almost $45,500 higher than the Foundation’s campaign goal. This exciting announcement was given at the recent 2015 Wisconsin FFA Convention held in Madison from June 15-18.

The philanthropic milestone is due to the generous collaboration of industry, individual and FFA-related sponsors. It also means even greater financial support for agricultural education and FFA members around the state.
In fact, the Wisconsin Association of FFA is celebrating its own record of 19,484 registered members in 2014-15, a 31-year high.

The Wisconsin FFA Foundation is pleased to announce its annual summer golf outings have raised more than $26,500 in three separate events held around the state in July.

The 2015 Northwest outing took place in Eau Claire on July 20, followed by the Northeast event in Wrightstown on July 21 and the Southern outing in Middleton on July 27.

Together, the three events welcomed approximately 280 golfers, and were sponsored by nearly 90 area businesses and agricultural organizations. Read more

 Today

The Country Today has supported Wisconsin FFA and agriculture education for many years, but especially with the introduction of benefit auctions at the Eau Claire and Wisconsin Public Service (Oshkosh) farm shows.

When its staff decided to have a live auction at the Eau Claire Farm Show back in 2000, Editor Jim Massey says they were looking for an organization to be the beneficiary of funds, and as an agriculture-focused newspaper, the Wisconsin FFA Foundation was a perfect fit. The auction has since evolved into a silent auction the past few years, and in total, about $50,000 has been raised for the FFA during the 16 years of auctions.

“I have never relished asking people for money for anything – as a journalist I always saw it as a bit of a conflict of interest,” says Massey. “But during my years on the FFA Sponsors Board and as president of the Wisconsin FFA Foundation, I didn’t have a problem asking people to support the organization because it was something I strongly believed in. I still feel the same today when it comes time to seek donations for our auction – I can’t think of a better cause than helping build the next generation of Wisconsin’s agricultural leaders.”

Massey was also instrumental in starting the silent auction that runs in conjunction with the WPS Farm Show in Oshkosh. The Oshkosh West FFA Chapter now coordinates the auction, with the proceeds split between the local chapter and the Wisconsin FFA Foundation.

More recently, The Country Today began a collaboration with the Wisconsin FFA Foundation on a cookbook project. The cookbook, released in August, is called “Wisconsin Family Favorites: Recipes from People You Know.” The book includes favorite recipes from agriculture officials, FFA leaders and other well-known people in Wisconsin.

“The Country Today has published cookbooks in the past, and they are always popular with our readers,” Massey adds. “Everybody likes to eat. We thought we would try something different with this cookbook, so we enlisted the FFA for help.”

Members of the 2014-2015 State FFA Officer Team gathered recipes and Massey worked with FFA Foundation Executive Director Sara Schoenborn on coordinating production of the book. A portion of the proceeds from each cookbook will be earmarked for the FFA Foundation or chapters that help sell the books.

“We unveiled the cookbooks at Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in August and they were very popular,” Massey says. “We think it could be a good fundraiser for the FFA.”

When I was first starting my Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), I decided I wanted to raise pigs, but like many FFA members, I didn't have the financial means to start a pig project from scratch. That's where the Wisconsin FFA Foundation came in. After receiving a start-up grant, I was able to purchase pigs to launch my project.

These grants allow students to broaden their horizons by starting and maintaining projects they may not be able to do otherwise, and allow them to further their learning within the agriculture industry. I have seen countless students develop and grow phenomenal SAE projects thanks to the Wisconsin FFA Foundation.

In addition to SAE grants, the Wisconsin FFA Foundation assists students in furthering their educations beyond high school through scholarships. Personally, these two opportunities to receive financial support have allowed me to start my own business, learn the ins and outs of raising pigs, and also further my education at UW-River Falls.

Thanks to these programs and donors of the Wisconsin FFA Foundation, FFA students all over Wisconsin are able to experience significant growth in knowledge of the agriculture industry both in and out of the classroom.
