Introducing our new Asia Regional Director
We are excited to introduce Tracy L. Dowell in the role of Regional Director - Asia as part of our international management team. Based in Singapore, this new position concentrates on developing and managing volunteer operations in Asia as well as seeking out new corporate and educational partners in the region.
Tracy is a dedicated business professional with over twenty years of operational experience, primarily in the hotel industry. Since 2006, she has enjoyed a diverse expat experience with her husband and daughter living in the United Kingdom, Germany and, currently, in Singapore. Update on Lehigh University Partnership
We are pleased to announce that long-time supporter Whitney Szmodis has taken on the role of Research Scientist for the Lehigh University-CFC partnership. In this new position, Whitney will work at Lehigh to facilitate program development and grant acquisition to support CFC schools in Siem Reap through the LU-CFC partnership. In addition, she will continue to work with Dr. Sothy Eng to support graduate students as they conduct research studies and evaluations of CFC programs. Whitney will work on campus at Lehigh to write scholarly publications that highlight CFC programs as well as attend conferences and other outreach sessions to promote awareness for CFC. By reaching out across the different disciplines and faculty at Lehigh and other institutions, we can build partnerships that will help support our goal of ensuring CFC schools remain sustainable school models for the Ministry of Education in Cambodia.
Congratulations on the new role, Whitney!
'Keep Austin Caring: Run for a Purpose'
On Saturday August 22nd, over one hundred participants gathered at The Hills of Lakeway Austin Park for a family fun race event. Organized by Suellen Carson and an incredible team of volunteers, this latest Keep Austin Caring event was a huge success and brought supporters of all ages together for fitness and philanthropy! CFC Founder and CEO Jamie Amelio joined the 5K race and was on hand to announce the winners. The young participants stole the show with their enthusiasm and energy that seemed to last long after the race and festival were over.
Run for a Purpose raised over USD$7300 and all proceeds will be directed to CFC's water filtration systems and other medical needs.
Special thanks to Leslie Weissmalik (at right) and a team of key volunteers including Nina Lesiuk, Tricia Raring, Shahla Mahmod, Roshana Lazaar, the Bartolotta family, Kelly Larimore, Joan Bockenkamp, Katie Orr of IST, and Steve Carson. Uniform collection (Singapore)...
When secondary student Nian Kai of Dunman High School in Singapore (above) realized that used school uniforms could be put to better use, he mobilized a team of fellow students to organize a uniform collection. Going an extra step, he and his friends also hand-sewed new buttons on all two hundred uniform shirts. The uniforms were delivered to Siem Reap and recently distributed to deserving and grateful CFC secondary students (right).
Thank you Nian Kai and Dunman High School!
