Thanks to Mel James (1955-1961) for taking this aerial shot during the digging phase a few weeks ago.

Record Numbers on the Hill
This year we have a record number of pupils on the Hill with close to a 10% increase over last year (the School role in 2017 was 307).  Current statistics are:
  • 340 pupils
  • 58% boarding. 42% day pupils
  • 61% boys, 39% girls
  • 109 in Sixth Form - making up 32% of the School
Our boarding houses are completely full and we've had to add an additional senior day boys house to accomodate numbers. Now named Woodstock, it houses 30 boys.  The day boy houses are situated in the old science block (to the right of Top School).  While we're on it, the names for all of the 12 houses are as follows:
  • Boarding for girls:   Greenwich, Durham, The Lodge, Severn
  • Boarding for boys:  Plymouth, Norwich, Sheffield, Bradford
  • Day house for girls:  Latimer
  • Day houses for boys:   Clyde, Havelock, Woodstock
Record Results for A-Levels and GCSEs
Over the summer KHS celebrated record academic results. For A Levels, nearly half of our pupils received an A* or A, with a 98% pass rate. For GCSEs, we had our best-ever results with a 96% pass rate and 85% of pupils receiving a A* or A in English.  Headmaster Nick Seward commented, "Despite media reports of tougher exams and tumbling pass rates, our pupils have got their heads down, worked hard, and exceeded expectations. Once again, I'm grateful to the most talented group of teachers I've worked with for helping girls and boys here fulfil their ambitions."
Autumn Reunion
In September a group of alumni mainly from the late 1950's joined us for a service and lunch to remember old friends.  Here's a picture in front of the Veritas Science and Maths building.  Thanks to MIke Mallorie, Ken Wingfield, Mike Kent, Clive Chivers, Mark Foley, Tony Peters, Stephen Greeves, Andrew Greeves, Colin Berwick, Simon Briggs, Alex Sandru, Nim Anderson and Matt Huber for being with us.

Alumni help Sixth Form

Our Lower Sixth pupils (Y12) spent a Saturday in early October learning about how to write their CVs and also how to interview for a job,  Thanks to Paul Burgess (1985-89) and MIke Kent (1951-59) for spending the day guiding pupils with this.   Mike wrote a handbook on the topic and each pupil was given this as part of the workshop.  Thanks also to Nick Holmes (1969-77) for his support behind the scenes and to Simon Briggs (1945-55) and Ken Wingfield (1958-62) for supporting the project.

A group of 50 Hillians of all ages met at the RAC Club in London for a drinks reception on the evening of October 11.  Headmaster Nick Seward gave an update on the School's progress and shared his commitment to Founder's Pupils and raising money for bursary support as CEB Young intended.   For more pictures of the evening, please visit our events page on our website.
