Dear Hillian,

Our pupils are enjoying a week off for half term.  During this Lent term our sport is focused on football (for the boys) and netball (for the girls).   Mock exams have begun and pupils in Years 11 and 13 are busy preparing for the real thing with GCSE and A-Levels. There is a feeling of things gaining in speed as we move toward the end of the school year.

Our Hillian network is active and growing. Hillian Facebook groups are especially active with banter and the sharing of photos from the past.  I am acutely aware that we need to do a better job of communicating to those who are not on social media and also to those who are not on email.  Please help me to move things forward on that front by sharing stories and news that you would like to share with Hillians. In years gone by Peter Johansen did an amazing job of keeping the community connected.   I hope to make a start again with your help.

The school was fortunate to have alumni speakers spend time with pupils over the last few months discussing a range of subjects including Banking, World War II History, Information Technology and Nuclear Robotics.  Even more interesting than their subject topics, our alumni shared the heart of KHS.  We are grateful to them for their support and look forward to expanding this Fit for the Future initiatve.   Linking our past with the present at KHS is exciting for all of us in building a better community.

The wider network of KHS is growing and I am grateful for your support.  Please be in touch.

School Magazines starting in 1916
 Now online

The earliest school magazines that we have found begin in 1916 and are hand-written by our Founder CEB Young.   These magazines documented life at KHS for over 90 years.

Online verions are now available on the school alumni section of the website.  Have a look here:

Bradford Houseparents reunion

A recent dinner reunion for former Houseparents of Bradford House was enjoyed by the Shepherds, Herringshaws, Lanes and current houseparents Tim and Vicky Martin.

Don't feel like you missed out, we've encouraged them to be with us at Founders Day and Chill on the Hill.  Plenty of time to reconnect!

Former Staff News

Bettine Snell - Thanks to everyone who remembered Betty for her birthday and sent cards.  Our pupils in the Helping Hands Club went to celebrate with Mrs. Snell at the Langstone Arms.   Ironically we later learned that  Betty founded the Social Services club at school during her time on the Hill.  Kindness really does come full circle.

Annette Chapman - Mrs. Chapman is recovering from a stroke that she had before Christmas.  She has been enjoying visits and cards from her incredibly loyal Clyde boys over the last few weeks.   If you would like to get in touch, she is at the Old Prebendal House in Shipton under Wychwood.

Margaret WoolliamsMargaret Woolliams, wife of James Woolliams, sadly passed away after a long illness on January 6.  Margaret joined husband James on the Hill after their marriage in 1966.   As houseparents first of Norwich in 1968 and later in Plymouth,  they served close to two decades on the Hill in various roles.  James will be with us at Founders Day on March 17 for those that wish to pay their respects.
