CAP [Child Assault Prevention] Program Finishes the School Year Strong

With 63 classroom workshops presented this year in 1st, 3rd & 5th grades, CAP can look back and reflect upon how the year has gone. Here is what some of the wonderful classroom teachers had to say:

“CAP gives the children the words and permission to stand up and speak for their rights.”

“Awesome, powerful program.”

“Important info all kids should have and presenting it in school adds importance to the content.”

We are currently in the process of recruiting new volunteers for next school year. If you are interested, please contact Caren Nemtzow, Director, at cnemtzow@needhamcommunitycoucnil.org or 781-444-2415, ext. 2120.

ESL [English as a 2nd Language] Takes a Field Trip

On Tuesday, May 14th, the ESL Cooking Class took a field trip into Boston’s Chinatown. Instead of cooking and conversation, learners and tutors ate dim sum and learned a little about Chinese food and culture.

A hardy crew of ten braved the wet weather and rode the train into South Station. After sampling many delicious dishes at Hei La Moon on Beach Street, the group went on a walking tour through Chinatown. On route, stops were made at an Asian market and bakery after which the group made its way back to the train bound for Needham.

The outing was a great success and we are looking forward to the next one!

Back to School Supplies Distribution Event

We are collecting new and unused school supplies for our annual distribution for income-eligible students to be held oThursday, August 22nd. Gift cards to Staples, Walgreens, CVS, etc. are always appreciated.

Please help us send everyone back to school with the supplies needed to succeed. What do we need? Everything a teacher asks a student to bring to class...pens, pencils, flash drives, scissors, notebooks, backpacks, crayons, markers, tissues, sanitizers, tape, glue, etc.

Donations may be delivered to our office during open donation hours (see below) or sent directly to our office...remember if you use Amazon, start your shopping at www.smile.amazon.com to increase your support of the Council.
