Scouting for Food

Thanks to all the Needham Scouts, and their families, who participated in the annual Scouting for Food event held on Saturday, March 30th. They collected, sorted, and delivered a lot of food items to the Council's Food Pantry.

A special thanks to all the Needham residents who left donations on their doorsteps, to the Norfolk Lodge who provided the space to sort and collect food, and to all the incredible Council volunteers and staff for their hard work on that day.

ESL Program

Do you know of any Needham residents or Needham-based employees who might benefit from one-on-one tutoring and/or a conversation group through the Council's English as a Second Language (ESL) Program? Please let them know we currently have tutors available and waiting to be matched with new students!

Click here for an online student application or call our office at 781-444-2415 for more information.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Needham Community Council Child Assault Prevention Program (CAP) focuses on child abuse prevention, not only in April, Child Abuse Prevention month, but throughout the school year. The CAP Program provides workshops for Needham elementary school children and adults that focus on providing the skills and knowledge needed to recognize the signs of child abuse, how to react to it, and what steps can be taken towards its’ prevention. The Council CAP Program and Needham Public Health Department’s DVAC [Domestic Violence Action Committee] are active partners in working to raise awareness about, and provide support for, issues such as Child Abuse Prevention in the Needham community.

Please click here for an article written by the Needham CAP Director about what the CAP program teaches both children and adults about child abuse.

Calling All Home Gardeners

We are now a proud member of AmpleHarvest.org,
a nationwide effort to connect home food gardeners to local food pantries to help feed the hungry and eliminate waste.

Bring us your extra bounty and we will share it with Needham families in need. The Council Food Pantry is a proud partner with the Needham Community Farm, Volante Farms, Vanguarden Farm in Dover, Kastiroubas Produce, and other fresh vegetable and fruit providers.

One extra tomato? A few peppers? We're happy to receive the produce and distribute to Council Food Pantry families!
