North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity is excited to announce the home dedication for the Kristine Edstrom Family. The home dedication will take place on Friday, October 25th at 2 p.m. at 202 Mesabi Location Annex in Biwabik.  This is the street directly past the car wash as you enter town from Gilbert.

This home, part of the 2019 build season, was actually started last fall when carpentry instructor Leo Lukas of Mesabi Range College contacted Habitat and said his carpentry class was interested in pouring the home’s foundation.  Not only did the students get that done, they also managed to frame, truss and sheet the house in time for our very snowy and cold winter.  Kris and her older son, DaJuan, did a lot of hard shoveling over last winter!  Then community volunteers stepped up to the plate this spring, along with Kris and her family and friends.  Special thanks go to the Northeast Minnesota Women’s Veterans, who are also coordinating a build day on October 26th in West Eveleth!  Members of the Mesabi Range Football team not only helped put up the lovely siding, donated by Louisiana Pacific Corp., but gave DaJuan some football tips.  Regular volunteer crews from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Wells Fargo, also a major funder of the home, Northridge Community Credit Union, United Taconite and our beloved “Quad City Regulars” were critical in finishing the home.

Asked about the meaning of the house to her family, Kris wrote, “Buying your first house is beyond exciting, but being able to help build your house is a privilege I though only the rich could choose to do!  Knowing that my hard work, dedication and sweat in and out of my home made a dream I never knew I had come true!”  We encourage everyone to come and see the lovely result of her and our community of volunteers' and supporters’ hard work:  a dream come true.

We will look forward to seeing you on Friday at 2:00 PM.  Join the celebration, this is why you and we do what we do!!
