Join the Celebration of a New Home and New Chapter in a Young Family's Life!
Carolin McDonell and son Easton at the Groundbreaking Last Fall
We would like to invite you to join us for the celebration and dedication of Carolin McDonell's new home this coming Tuesday, May 15th at 10 a.m.  The house, located at 327 8th Stree SW in Chisholm, was built in partnership with the Applied Learning Institute, with the students and teachers of Hibbing and Chisholm High Schools’ construction classes, the electrical class of Hibbing Community College and the masonry class of Mesabi Community College providing the bulk of the labor.  These students and their teachers were joined by Carolin McDonell, her friends and family and long-time volunteer leader Harold Wentland.  Major funding for this project was provided by the Cliffs Foundation.
This new home, which Carolin has helped to build and will now purchase, brings a big and wonderful change for this family’s life.  As Carolin said, “By owning my own home, the quality of life for me and my son will increase greatly. We will finally have a place to call home, without having to worry about moving again. Our mortgage will finally be affordable and we will be able to more easily budget and plan for the future.”  Carolin is also very much looking forward to putting down roots, something she has been unable to do as she has had to move frequently in her search for affordable housing.  “As we settle into our new home, I look forward to decorating and adding some of my own personal touches to it. I look forward to getting to know the neighbors and being able to become a part of the community. Driving half the distance to work will also be a blessing!”
We hope you will join us to celebrate with Carolin and thank these hard working students and their teachers.  Congratulations, Carolin!
Thank you to Everyone Who Made our Women Build Week a Success!

Women Move the Patterson Home Forward During Women Build Week!
NSLCHFH was honored to receive a grant from our partners at Lowe's, via Habitat International, to host an official "Women Build" week at the Patterson home in Hibbing.  However, as executive director Nathan Thompson noted during Wednesday's "media day" event, NSLCHFH has a strong history of partnering with women to help build our homes.  In fact, 65% of  our construction volunteers are women!
Thanks to the hard work of all of the volunteers this week, the Patterson project is looking more and more like the home it will become.  But we aren't even halfway there yet!  Come and join in the fun, let's get the Pattersons home!  Reply to this email or call Susan at 218-750-2611 to get your build days scheduled!  As always, if you aren't interested in building, we'd love to have you share your culinary skills and help us provide a great lunch for our volunteers.   Ask the Iron Range Jewels how popular you will be on the job site!
