Corduroy Connection | Holiday 2019
Support Wisconsin FFA and Agricultural Education
Luke Wiedenfeld is right at home as the Lake Mills ag instructor/FFA advisor, and a doubled enrollment his first two years shows the students are too.
Luke is a 1994 Lake Mills graduate himself, who went onto serve as a State FFA Secretary, the state's National FFA Officer Candidate, and then graduate from UW-Madison. After a nearly two-decade career at Kraft Foods-Oscar Mayer in Madison, the company closed the location and coincidentally, Lake Mills was hiring an ag teacher.
"It was the perfect timing - an opportunity to give back to my hometown by rebuilding our agriculture and FFA program."

"FFA provided me opportunities to build leadership and public speaking skills, and build a network of friends and supporters. Now I can give back while doing what I have always loved - being involved with agriculture and FFA."

Wisconsin Ag Instructors Selected for National
Training Opportunities
Becky Grabarski, the agriculture instructor and FFA advisor at Adams-Friendship High School, was selected to attend the National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy as part of the 2019 National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) Convention.
She says, "Teachers selected to attend this academy spend a week in the summer learning about inquiry based education. They then teach workshops at NAAE National Convention and National FFA Convention. It is a wonderful opportunity."
Other NAAE special involvement from Wisconsin Association of Ag Educators (WAAE) included:
  • Kayla Loewenhagen (Fall Creek) and Gwen Boettcher (De Forest) - XLR8 Program to help retain mid-career teachers,
  • Emily Watson (Clear Lake) - FAST Program for future agriscience teachers, and
  • Katelyn Dei (Slinger) - Teacher Turn the Key Program, focused on professional development for young career teachers.
Congratulations to everyone who participated, was honored through awards and learned many skills at the NAAE Convention to bring home to Wisconsin. Thank you, ag teachers!
