December 2015
Dear Friends of The Antioch Partners (TAP),
Advent is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I treasure focusing again on the incarnation, experiencing again the wonder of God entering human form, and celebrating again the joy that has come to the world. Truly, this is a holy time of year … a time for re-focusing on God’s story, and on how our individual stories are threaded into God’s redemptive plan. “O, Come, let us adore him!”
A Significant Milestone
Thanks to all of you who prayed for, and contributed towards, TAP’s first ever Partner (missionary) Retreat in Thailand this October. It was an incredible blessing to have all the Partners together (our entire group numbered more than 90), and it was an incredible privilege to see how God used our time together in so many significant ways. God used the retreat to renew, restore and encourage. Through the worship, teaching (our theme was “Nurturing Resiliency”), prayer, fellowship and rest, God’s Spirit was at work in powerful ways. Many of the Partners are working in difficult contexts … contexts characterized by conflict, intense poverty, oppressive regimes, etc. They needed refreshment and renewal, and that’s what God did. We know many of you were praying for the retreat, and we want to thank you all. This was another Ephesians 3:20 moment for us where we experienced God doing “immeasurably more than we could have ever hoped or imagined.” We also know that without the generosity of many of you, this retreat never would have happened. So, again, thank you for your partnership in ministry!

Looking Back, Looking Forward
As some of you remember, TAP became operational in the summer of 2007. I continue to give thanks for the vision God gave the leaders of Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship and The Outreach Foundation; a vision to see a new, flexible, creative missionary-sending structure serving Presbyterian churches here in the US. This vision led to the development and launching of what is now TAP, and it’s a joy for me and our TAP team to be serving PCUSA, ECO and EPC churches across the US. If you include children, the TAP missionary family now totals eighty-four people with more on the way. By God's grace, much has been accomplished over these eight years, and we're excited about what is yet to come.
As we look forward, our prayer is that TAP will continue to grow.  What does this look like concretely? One way of looking at this is we want to serve more Partners like the Staddon family in Japan. Art and Darcy Staddon live and work in Nagoya, Japan. They are serving with a dynamic ministry called Christ Bible Institute (CBI) that is training Japanese pastors and reaching out to Japanese that don’t know Jesus yet (since less than 1% of Japanese are following Jesus, that’s tens of millions of people!). God has also given Art a burden for sharing his love with a growing, and challenging, community of people in Japan called the Hikikomri (essentially, these are adolescents and adults who have withdrawn from society). In addition to Darcy's work with CBI, she also plays a vital support role with the Lausanne Movement which connects influencers and ideas for global mission ( Art and Darcy love Jesus, they are passionate about God’s mission in the world, and they are excited to be participating in God’s mission in Japan. We want to serve more people like the Staddons, and more churches like their home church in Philadelphia, Woodland Presbyterian Church.
