Blain’s Farm & Fleet was founded in 1955 by Bert and Claude Blain. Bert’s daughter, Jane Blain Gilbertson, is the current CEO and President after working in the organization for over 30 years herself. Blain’s Farm & Fleet has 38 stores throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. Along with Blain Supply Inc. located in Janesville, Wisconsin, the company employs over 4,400 people.

The business was built and ran on strong family values as it stilil does today. Celebrating their 62nd year in business as a family owned company, Blain’s Farm & Fleet is dedicated to giving back to the communities through various local organizations including the Wisconsin FFA Foundation.

Blain’s Farm & Fleet has had a very strong relationship with the foundation and local chapters in our communities as well. At Blain’s we understand the importance of agriculture education because those students become future leaders, biologists, veterinarians, farmers and engineers.

Blain's Farm & Fleet is proud to be partners with the Wisconsin FFA Foundation for almost 20 years! Today, they provide four annual post-secondary scholarships and also support the Foundation's annual fund.

Executive Director John HromyakDear Jonas & Jen,

As 2017 comes to a close and we enter the holiday season, we have the opportunity to reflect on what we’re thankful for… and more importantly, who we’re thankful for. To our greater FFA Family of members, advisors, parents, alumni, sponsors, and advocates across Wisconsin – thank you for all you do for our FFA membership!

Last month, I was able to see firsthand the outcome of your support at the 90th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis. Of the record 67,000 in attendance, Wisconsin FFA was well represented with 2,941 constituents – the largest Wisconsin delegation in 10 years! Those in attendance competed (and many won!) at FFA’s highest level. You can find full convention results and accomplishments in this newsletter.

Please enjoy the stories and updates in this edition of the Corduroy Connection, and on behalf of the Foundation staff and board, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Hello! My name is Ciara Koboski and I am serving as one of the 2017-2018 Wisconsin FFA State Vice Presidents. Currently I am taking a year off from college but plan on transferring to UW- River Falls in the Fall 2018 where I plan to major Agricultural Education. My career goal is to help grow the interest of agriculture in the students I plan on teaching.

FFA was not originally part of my background. In the 8th grade I decided to see what my chapter was all about. The first year of my FFA experience I spent it doing local activities such as the cheese and sausage sale, and attending chapter meetings. The next year I got really involved and started to see the other side of what FFA could offer me to helping me grow as an individual, and making me realize the reasons why I love agriculture.

One of the biggest and most memorable events from my high school FFA career is when I spent weeks studying and memorizing the FFA Creed. This was going to be the first step out of my comfort zone. I got to the district contest and was reciting the Creed left and right. My name was called and it was time to recite the Creed in front of judges. I started to speak and froze! There were three judges in the room and I froze. After what felt like a minute of not speaking, I picked up right where I had left off and finished out the Creed.

This event started the growth for me just like each student's growth starts in different places. Reciting the Creed and freezing encouraged me to push my growth to a whole different level. This taught me to try new things and just keep growing in this organization which offers us opportunities to grow as leaders, while also learning about agriculture. These things would not be possible without the support and sponsorship from FFA partners.

My team and I are looking forward to helping students "Live their Why" this year, challenging them to grow as individuals and leaders. We are excited to continue to thank and meet many of the Wisconsin FFA partners too. It's your sponsorship that helps change the lives of members each day! Thank you for helping make a difference in our wonderful Wisconsin Association of FFA!
