Chapter Grants Awarded

The Wisconsin FFA Foundation has announced the winners of the 2018 chapter grants, which encourage Wisconsin FFA chapters to develop individual and cooperative activities that will enhance their communities.

Two new grants were awarded this year. A $4,000 grant from the Burton H. Morris estate was bestowed upon the Adams-Friendship FFA Chapter. Morris, a longtime FFA and agricultural education supporter in Adams County, passed in 2016 and has left funds in his will for chapters who have students within the county limits.

Another new chapter grant was awarded to three chapters, each receiving $266.67: Prairie du Chien, Kiel and River Valley. The Wisconsin FFA Convention Chapter Grant was established by the WAXX/Wisconsin Farm Report Network with Pam Jahnke to help members attend the upcoming Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison.

Executive Director John HromyakDear Sara,

Happy June!

From Wisconsin dairy celebrations and the growing season well underway, to the final days of school and our 89th Wisconsin FFA Convention… it’s another busy month for agriculture and agriculture education alike!

June is also a transition month for Wisconsin FFA and the Foundation. The state officer team’s year of service crescendos and comes to a close at convention, with a new team of leaders being selected for 2018-19. In similar fashion, the Foundation’s 2017-18 campaign and funding year wraps up, with new goals and continued need for support on the horizon for 2018-19.

Since last summer, we've asked you to support our campaign in a variety of ways. We say thank you for your contributions of time, talent and treasure that have created another successful year for Wisconsin FFA members. If you have not yet participated with a gift and would like to, visit our website for more information. You might also choose to join us at convention or at an upcoming golf outing – find more details in the articles below.

Best wishes to you and yours for a productive and happy summer – please enjoy our other updates in this Corduroy Connection!

Where in Wisconsin?

 Wyffels
 Hybrids

In 1946, Wyffels Hybrids was established with a vision to produce seed that could help friends and neighbors be more successful. That promise has resulted in significant growth and opportunity across the Corn Belt as Wyffels continues to build a team of employees who share that vision for the seed business, and passion for serving customers.

Being an independent and family owned seed corn company, Wyffels Hybrids understands the great value involvement in FFA provides to our future leaders in the industry and is why we continue to support the Wisconsin FFA Foundation today.

"As a former Wisconsin FFA member, I took advantage of the many experiences the FFA had to offer,” said Dave Rolli, Region Manager for Wyffels Hybrids. “As Wyffels Hybrids continues to grow and we seek out qualified candidates to hire, I see value in the development opportunities within the FFA. In fact, it wasn't until after competing in and winning the state Ag Sales Career Development Event (CDE) that I considered a career in sales.”

“As I reflect on the many experiences I've had in the FFA I can see how they have made an impact on who I am and what I can offer to my customers and employer."

Wyffels Hybrids is proud to partner with the Wisconsin FFA Foundation, as a sponsor of the Ag Sales CDE and Ag Sales Proficiency Award.

It has been said that we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. I came into this year as a state officer intending to give to FFA members; I didn't intend for them to give so much back. My favorite memories from the year all involved watching FFA members grow their peers. Whether it was the Oconomowoc FFA officers inviting a younger member to lunch, Amery middle schoolers leading an activity for their Food For America program, or two members at 360 Conference building up each other's strengths and increasing their engagement in the conference, witnessing FFA members grow others is incredibly rewarding. While these were simple actions, they contributed a positive influence to the space around them. I have loved helping others to find the joy that comes with serving others.

Thank you to you all for doing the same with your support of FFA. You help others to serve others. I initially benefitted from your support as I participated in activities like the Agriscience Fair, Leadership Development Events (LDEs), and my SAEs of agriscience research and agriculture education as a member of the Big Foot FFA Chapter. Now, I get to share FFA with the many members I have met throughout the year. You grew me. I reached out to another member. Now they have grown someone else. By cycling your skills, talents, and resources into Wisconsin FFA, you have had an immeasurable impact on the students involved in FFA and agricultural education, and encouraged others to give back as well. Thank you - for growing me. Thank you - for giving me the gift of serving others. Thank you - for making a life by what you have given.
