AMPC May 2019 Update
Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy's mission is to restore, enhance, and preserve Atlanta Memorial Park, making it a beautiful, connected, and sustainable urban greenspace for the enjoyment of all.
What's happening in the park? Important updates...
Atlanta Memorial Park Sidewalk Project: The Atlanta Memorial Park Sidewalk Project will begin next week! Construction Advisories were mailed to the surrounding neighbors by the Mayor's office yesterday with an electronic notice being emailed this week. AMPC will forward that notice to all of the surrounding neighborhoods upon receipt. The project will begin at the intersection of Howell Mill Road and Wesley Drive. Adrian Carver is the Renew Atlanta/TSPLOST contact for construction outreach during the project. Renew Atlanta is committed to engaging with the community during the project construction.  Please contact Renew Atlanta at 404.330.6165 or to reach out to Adrian with any questions. Park Pride Legacy Grant - Beautification and Nature Trail Project: Installation of the rain gardens, improved drainage, and landscaping has begun at the Memorial Park playground! After those improvements are complete, the landscaping crew will move to the old playground area to transform that section of the park into a quiet, restful spot for park goers to enjoy a picnic or read a book while surrounded by native plantings. Click here for the schedule and more details.
Howell Mill Road Outfall Realignment: Construction is underway to eliminate the sewer aerial that crosses over Peachtree Creek at the Howell Mill bridge.  Crews are hard at work to finish this project by 3Q 2019. Please exercise caution while walking/driving through this area. Click here for additional information.
Oldfield/Woodward Outfall Realignment: The Department of Watershed Management contractor has installed the silt fencing along Woodward Way but the project was delayed due to permitting issues related to the work within the GDOT corridor. The contractor is expected to re-start work this week to eliminate the sewer aerial that crosses over Peachtree Creek between Woodward Way and Wesley Drive. Click here for additional information.
Peachtree Creek Trunk Stabilization Project: The contractor is close to wrapping up work in the park with the crew now located at a manhole close to the Northside Drive bridge on the south side of the creek, cleaning the 96" trunk line extending into the Bobby Jones golf course. While the entire project will not be complete until 4Q 2019, the contractor is expected to finish up its work in Atlanta Memorial Park by the end of May 2019, weather permitting. What's coming up? How can I get involved?
Saturday, May 11, 2019 - AMPC/Trees Atlanta Forest Restoration Project: Join AMPC and Trees Atlanta green t-shirt volunteer and certified tree keeper, Aaron Bose, for our monthly forest restoration volunteer day from 9 am to noon. On this day, we will be working in the section of the park along the nature trail removing kudzu.  Please meet in the park next to the home located at 811 Wesley Drive. From there, the group will walk to the site where the kudzu is located. Please wear long-sleeve shirts, long pants, and closed-toe shoes (and bring a water bottle) for the work day. Trees Atlanta will provide tools and gloves. Click here to register.
Saturday, May 25, 2019 - Trees Atlanta Feathered Friends of the Atlanta BeltLine: Join Trees Atlanta and avid bird watcher, Jason Ward, on a mission to identify some of Atlanta’s most common birds from 10 am to noon!  Participants will explore the Northside section of the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum, home to hawks, herons, kingfishers, cardinals, bluebirds, blue jays, sparrows and more. You’ll learn how to identify and enjoy these beautiful creatures that call our City in the Forest home.  Click here to register.
