The Underpass is coming!
Pedestrians and cyclists will soon enjoy a multi-use trail connection (see red u-shaped line above) that will take them under the new Northside Drive bridge. The trail will connect both sides of the park—users will go under instead of crossing Northside Drive.
This project has taken a long time but has been worth the wait.
It all began back in 2016. AMPC asked neighbors for their support of a multi-use trail under the future Northside Drive replacement bridge. Neighbors responded, expressing their overwhelming support of this project.
Thanks to the dedication and determination of the AMPC, PATH Foundation, Georgia Department of Transportation, City of Atlanta, Integrated Land Design, and support from the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation and neighbors, construction will begin next week!
To make this project even more special, AMPC kicked off a fundraising campaign this summer for The Cornerstone Project to improve the entrances to Memorial Park. Debbie's Place, honoring Debbie Weeks Felker, will be a special memorial garden in the corner of Northside and Wesley Drives for friends to meet, start a walk around the park, or simply sit quietly among the park's beautiful tree canopy.
