Check out what UCPAIndy is doing in the community
Here are two stories of families we've helped in the past during back to school season:
A mother named Cheryl contacted us about her son, Gabe, a soon-to-be 4th grader in Warsaw. Gabe has cerebral palsy and uses a power chair as his main mode of movement. Gabe had outgrown the chair that he had been using since he was in the 1st grade. Unfortunately, he was not eligible for funding through Medicaid. UCPAIndy was able to help Cheryl apply for our assistance and we were then able to help Gabe get a new chair. He started school on time and was able to use his new wheels to join the drama club and have fun with his friends.
Erika was a 16 year old with cerebral palsy from Gary. She gets around well on her own, but has some difficulty with enunciating her words. She wanted an iPad to help her communicate with her friends and teachers. UCPAIndy helped Erika with purchasing an iPad in time for school. We also recommend several apps to help with communication such as voice dictation and hand writing sampling. Erika has been enjoying her new tablet, and is getting the best grades she has had in years.
