A moral failure: understanding the Government's new plan for immigration
Last week we wrote to you about the Government's announcement to create a new plan for immigration.
Thank you to those of you who have already been in touch to share with us campaigning actions you have taken, or plan to take. We have been strengthened by how many of you have written to your MP, and shared our statement within your faith groups and networks. Thank you.
As promised, we want to resource you to campaign with us to oppose these proposals, and to advocate for a just and compassionate asylum system.
To understand more about why the proposals are so deeply concerning, and the wider context of seeking sanctuary in the UK, you can read this background piece we have written.
To support you with writing to your MP, we have produced a template letter. You can use this letter as a basis for your communication, if you wish to, though try to add your own personal thoughts and feelings, especially drawing on any involvement you have in supporting people seeking sanctuary in the UK.
The Government has launched a six-week consultation in response to their proposals (closing on the 6th May). You can input into the consultation here, either as an individual or as an organisation.
The proposals represent the biggest potential shift in policy that we have seen in our lifetime at Boaz. If implemented, they will be devastating for individuals seeking sanctuary and devastating in what they signal to the rest of the world. Join us in taking action and speaking truth to power.
