Alex has a neurological disorder that affects his vision, fine motor skills and balance. He was looking for both companionship and assistance from a service dog, and after patiently waiting a few years, was finally matched with Baylor in April 2013. Baylor fits the bill on both counts. Baylor helps Alex navigate his world by steering him around obstacles and giving him reassurance when he is on dark stairways or slippery hills. He says his disability can make him feel “blue” sometimes, but Baylor lifts his mood and helps him keep a positive outlook.
Alex and Baylor graciously took the stage last month at our Unleash Your Love luncheon. Alex told their story and the many ways that Baylor has enhanced his life over the past year, wrapping it up by stating that he and Baylor truly are "brothers from different mothers".
Unleash Your Love a huge success thanks to sponsors!
Our 2014 Unleash Your Love luncheon on April 24 was a huge success, due in large part to our wonderful sponsors. We'd like to acknowledge returning sponsors, Leavitt Capital Companies, Patty Smith and the Luft Family Foundation. We'd also like to acknowledge the support of first-year luncheon sponsor, Regence BlueShield. Helping their families, neighbors, and co-workers get and stay healthy is priority number one for Regence, which is why they are so proud to support the work Summit is doing to empower Washingtonians to lead healthy active lives. Without such amazing sponsorship, we could not have carried out such a successful luncheon.
Symetra honors Summit at Sounders game
On Wednesday, May 7th, Summit was honored as a Symetra Community Champion. Some of Summit's staff and supporters were Symetra's guests as the Sounders defeated FC Dallas. The group was treated to an on-field experience prior to the game and Summit was recognized at half-time for the honor.
Watch for increased promotion of Summit by both Symetra and the Seattle Sounders as a benefit of this honor.
Thank you, Symetra!
Hats off to Hellams Vineyard
Many thanks to Hellams Vineyard in La Conner for hosting a wine-tasting benefit for us on April 27. Attendees tasted specially selected – and delicious – dog-label wines, learned about Summit and saw a demonstration by graduates Lacey Woods and Isabelle. Next time you’re in La Conner, pop in, do a little tasting and say “thanks” for their support. They also have a great wine and beer club that might tickle your taste buds. Thanks also to Dave and Eddylee Scott, of Anacortes, for suggesting and sponsoring this event.
