Dear Friend,  
 
When we adopted Cisco the cat as the pet for our convent, our primary motive was to keep the mice away. But Cisco had a secret that he didn’t reveal until he was ensconced in our home. When we learned his secret, we were at first shocked, maybe disappointed. But that secret lead to a lesson for all of us about God’s all-embracing love.

Meeting Mary on the Beach
The sand and the sea provided the setting as a group of Catholic adults gathered during this past summer for a faith-sharing experience that drew them closer to the Virgin Mary. The Jersey Shore and At Prayer with Mary from RENEW International were a winning combination.

RENEW Takes Lead Role Evangelizing
Latino Catholics
Parishes and dioceses around the country recognize the need to reach out to the growing number of Catholics of Hispanic origin. Fr. Alejandro López-Cardinale, our coordinator of Hispanic ministry, represents RENEW as a leader dedicated to serving this burgeoning group. As vice-president of the National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry, Fr. Alejandro participated in the meeting of three national organizations dedicated to ministry, which was held August 26-29 in Las Vegas. Hispanic ministry leaders came together to reflect, share, think, and plan around the idea of Pastoral Hispana de Conjunto—a coordinated pastoral plan for Hispanic ministry in light of the New Evangelization.

Spanish Videos for the New Evangelization: Cambios de rumbos Now Online 
Now Spanish-speaking Catholics have a resource to help them effectively reach out to evangelize family and friends. This series of short, engaging videos present real-life stories of awakened faith and new life through the sacraments. These stories can inspire faith discussion among family members, friends, and parishioners.

 
In Virgillio’s story, a man has a deep spiritual experience during a desperate night on the run. He pledges to turn his life over to doing God’s will.

Stockton Latinos to Work for Social Justice
When Latino/Hispanic parishioners begin La justicia brota de la fe: Formación en la fe y en la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia this fall in the Diocese of Stockton they will be well prepared. Twenty two of the twenty-five parishes that will use La justicia brota de la fe participated in the training workshops held Sept. 3-5.

New Resource for Merging Parishes Pilot Underway in Diocese of Metuchen
Two parishes in the Diocese of Metuchen, NJ, are piloting New Wine, New Wineskins: A Faith-Sharing Resource for Restructuring Parishes this fall. RENEW International developed this resource to help parishes navigate the spiritual dimensions of restructuring in a way that fosters vibrant faith communities.

We’re inviting all pastoral leaders to save the dates for the Mid-Atlantic Congress. The theme this year is Evangelization Matters: Journey with Christ in Faith, Witness, and Mission. We are pleased to announce that RENEW International’s president and executive director Sr. Terry Rickard, OP, will give the Opening Keynote Address on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. In addition, on March 1, RENEW staff members will offer workshop sessions. Sr. Marie Cooper, SJC, will highlight the role of small Christian communities as ideal settings to prepare Catholics to reach out as evangelizers. Manuel Hernandez will present in Spanish on how RENEW’s newest resource forms Latinos to understand the social teachings of the Catholic Church. This is an event not to be missed.
