Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” (John 20:18).
Dear Friend,
Easter began the moment the gardener said, "Mary!" and she knew who he was (John 20:16). The life-changing event of the resurrection did not happen in the empty tomb but in Mary’s encounter with the living God. This encounter with the Risen Lord continues to happen when we open ourselves to God’s surprising presence in the daily events of our lives.
During this Easter season I invite you to take the time to notice the presence of Christ in the new buds of spring, in the faces of newborn babies, and in the lives of the unexpected “gardeners” that we encounter each day.
May you encounter the Risen Lord this day!
Eastertide Blessings,
Sr. Theresa Rickard, O.P., D.Min.

María Magdalena fue y dijo a los discípulos: “He visto al Señor” (Juan 20,18)
Estimado/a Amigo/a,
Hermana Theresa Rickard, O.P., D.Min.

Lifting Up Our Hearts
Sr. Terry Rickard writes for Living with Christ
In preparation for the implementation of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal in all U.S. parishes, Sr. Terry Rickard, OP, is writing a year-long monthly series for Living with Christ, a daily missal published by Bayard each month. Like RENEW’s latest small-group faith-sharing resource, Lifting Up Our Hearts: Praying with the Third Edition of the Roman Missal, the series focuses on the people’s responses, particularly those in which the words are changing. The reflections are geared toward enhancing parishioners’ experience of the liturgy and its scriptural foundation. In other words, the series is designed to help people pray more deeply at Mass, leading to more “full, active and conscious” participation. To read her reflection, click here.

from Sr. Catherine Nerney, SSJ
For Sr. Cathy Nerney, SSJ, there has been no more helpful guide for making choices in her life than the “see-judge-act” methodology that is incorporated into RENEW International’s community formation process and resources.
Speaking to members of RENEW’s staff, Sr. Cathy described how RENEW helped her to ground her yearning for God in the concrete experiences of her own life and the lives of others.
“I have come to see that I am inseparably bound to all others without limit or exception. God continually draws me to others and, through others, to be about that work of freeing one another from the dungeons of darkness and prisons of blindness that entrap us,” said Sr. Cathy, author of the Lenten Longings series, reissued by RENEW International for Lent this year.
Sr. Cathy addressed RENEW staff members during their annual Holy Week Staff Days at Stella Maris Retreat Center in Long Branch on April 18. For more, click here
Renewing Family Faith
Crosses to Hope
People carry crosses in many different wayssuffering poor health, undergoing the process of divorce, battling addiction, enduring the agony of racism, having to move away from family and friends. But because we believe in the resurrection, we live in hope that even life's darkest moments harbor the possibility of new life.
Resurrection moments are those experiences that change our lives. Sometimes they are once-in-a-lifetime occasions like the birth of a baby. Other times, they are unexpected moments when we learn something new or experience something that helps us to be better Christian people.
Parenthood is an experience that can profoundly change one's life.
Share with your children the positive ways in which becoming a parent has affected your life.
Tell your children how you experienced the presence of Jesus through these changes, for example, "The first time you smiled, I knew that God had smiled on us when God gave you to us."

Why Catholic? Inspires
"If other groups are like ours, then they too are having a phenomenal and uplifting experience. Our group connects so well and we are taking turns serving in the leader/facilitator role. We are learning so much about what it means to be Catholic as we discuss each week's topic as well as sharing our past and present experiences. Being an old-time Catholic this experience brings tears to my eyes."

Table Talk:
Family Discussion
As we celebrate new life with spring, reflect on how the following impacts your life:
1) What do you believe about life after death?
2) Have you thought about going to heaven someday?
3) Do you pray at times to someone you believe is in heaven? As a family, remember those people in prayer.
Pondering the Word
"This is indeed the will of my Father; that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day."
—John 6:40
Take time to reflect on the will of the Father for you and the promise of believing in Jesus.
