The Tomb is Empty, Jesus Is Alive
Dear Friend,
The grasses, leaves, and flowers of spring are all visible signs of new life. But the sign of eternal life is the sign we cannot see—the crucified Jesus gone from the tomb!
In Christ,
Sr. Theresa Rickard, OP
President and Executive Director

Small-Community Ideas That Work: The Paschal Mystery
The end of the faith-sharing season is not a time to grade yourself or your group. Rather, it is a time to consider how God is at work in your ministry as a small-community leader, in the lives of the individual participants of your community, and through your community as a whole.
For some questions to aid your reflection on the Paschal Mystery and your small group, click here.

RENEW to Partner with GreenFaith, Catholic Climate Covenant on Response to Pope Francis' Encyclical on Ecology
RENEW International is collaborating with the Catholic Climate Covenant and GreenFaith to develop small-group materials about Pope Francis' eagerly anticipated encyclical on ecology.
Designed for use in parishes and on college campuses, the small-group resources, in English and Spanish, will bring the encyclical into the lives of thousands of people. It will help members of parishes and faith communities understand the encyclical’s teachings and apply them to their lives. It will also include responses to the encyclical from religious leaders from diverse faith traditions.

ARISE Group Provides Water to Myanmar Villages
Few things are as easily taken for granted as clean water, and that fact prompted a small Christian community in New Jersey to help their brothers and sisters half-way around the world.
According to Jackie McNulty of St. Mary/St. Andrew Parish in Bayonne, the small group that was experiencing its second season of ARISE Together in Christ from RENEW International was determined to turn faith into action.

Bishop Patrick Zurek of the Diocese of Amarillo praised RENEW International and Catholic Extension for bringing Why Catholic?/ ¿Por qué ser católico? to his mission diocese. |

A Bishop's Dream Come True
We recently received a gracious personal letter of thanks from Bishop Patrick Zurek of the Diocese of Amarillo. In describing the significant blessings of Why Catholic? for the people of his mission diocese, he wrote, “You made a bishop’s dream come true. You acknowledged the hunger and thirst of the people of a missionary diocese to participate in the same programs as parishes with greater means. You help us to realize that we are not alone, but are part of the beautiful, loving, caring, generous, and evangelizing community known as the Universal Catholic Church.”

May Has Long Been the Month of Mary
“All things seem possible in May.”
That observation by naturalist Edward Teale rings true: In May, the memory of winter fades away, new life springs from the earth, and summer no longer seems like an empty promise. This atmosphere of rejuvenation and hope—ideas that are related to motherhood—has inspired Christians in many cultures to dedicate the month of May to Mary, the mother of Jesus.
