BE PRESENT: Cherish Your Gifts
Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Carnival
[Hong Kong, 25 April 2023] Riding on Stress Awareness Month in April, KELY Support Group (“KELY”) will be holding the “BE PRESENT: Cherish Your Gifts” Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Carnival (“BE PRESENT” or the “Carnival”) at Lee Tung Avenue, Wanchai from 29 April – 1 May 2023 (Saturday – Monday) to promote a healthy attitude towards our young people’s wellbeing. The Carnival will feature a marketplace, workshops, performances and sharings, as well as other carnival elements. Platinum Sponsor for the Carnival is Tamjai Samgor, and Venue Sponsor is Lee Tung Avenue.
Combining a fun carnival atmosphere with educational components to promote a healthy attitude towards our young people’s wellbeing, the Carnival itself engaged a lot of young entrepreneurs as booth owners, young performers as well as workshop hosts to support their youth community. It also encourages public participation from all ages to work together with young people to engage the community on mental health awareness. The ultimate goal is to inspire the public and youth to be mindful and intentional about caring for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
“Be Present” signifies the importance of “living in the moment” - placing emphasis on nurturing one’s health and happiness in the present moment. It also serves as a reminder that each individual is their own unique gift to the world.
KELY Corner – Experience x Growth Hosted by KELY, the space allows visitors to learn more about what the organisation does for the youths of Hong Kong.
KELY POST Launched for the first time at BE PRESENT is the KELY POST, a new project that invites visitors to write down words of encouragement for a young friend or their near-future self on a postcard. KELY would then mail and deliver the postcards collected for them, and we will post them out right before World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2023. At each occasion where the KELY Post Box is featured, a special edition postcard would be produced to record the visitor’s and KELY’s journey. The series of postcards will undoubtedly become irreplaceable collectibles that signify the growth of senders, recipients and of KELY.
KELY Charity Goodie Bags Kind donors and partners have also donated various merchandise and goods for KELY to assemble event-exclusive goodie bags for charity sale at the Carnival. Available at HK$160 or HK$280, each goodie bag may contain varying contents, of which retail value can be up to over HK$500.
Special Experience Supported by Yo! Face Painting Studio and inkgrid.jpg, visitors can also experience face painting and temporary tattoos at the KELY Corner.
Marketplace – Connect x Wellbeing Handcrafters and business owners who shares KELY’s concern for youth mental health wellbeing will be hosting their own booths at the marketplace at BE PRESENT. They all have something on mental health or stress relief that they would love to share with visitors, which are shown in the creativity of their merchandise.
Each booth owner has kindly offered at least one product for charity sales at the Carnival. A part of the revenue gained from these products will be donated to KELY to support its mental health related work and programmes.
Workshop – Relax x Refresh Workshops at BE PRESENT are arranged to give participants time to share a relaxed moment with their peers or a young person in their life. Brand new experience can break every-day stress and bring a refreshing change to daily life.
From painting to sculpting, from baking to electronics, the workshops feature a variety of activities fit for people from all walks of life. Workshop tutors generously contributed their time and effort to the Carnival, as well as agreed to donate all proceeds from the workshops to KELY. Hence, these workshops are being provided at a discounted price for charity.
Registration is required for the workshops. Online registration is now available through the link on KELY’s website until 8:AM on 28 April 2023 (Friday). A small number of places has been reserved for on-site registration.
Performance & Sharing – Creativity x Expression The Carnival presents a valuable opportunity for young people and the people who care about them to share their talents and experiences on-stage in the hopes of inspiring others to follow – creative outlets are often a good way to relieve stress.
Programmes of the Carnival features a number of young performers looking for a place to shine, as well as seasoned performers who know how to keep an audience entertained. Guest speakers have also been invited to do some sharing on mental health and stress relief. Among music and dancing, quiet sharing and exciting physical acts, there will be something on-stage for everyone from all ages to enjoy.
