Goings On...

The past month was filled with lots of excitement, challenges, and successes. I would not expect anything less for March (Madness!). El Grupo is what it is today, and at every step of our growth from where we have come, because of the group efforts that go into making things happen.

THANK YOU for making the 24 Hours in Old Pueblo an incredible experience all around.

THANK YOU for helping us move into our new clubhouse (and thanks for the continued work that is needed to still make it all work!)

THANK YOU for allowing us to encourage youth that extra bit to be the best they can be in all aspects of their lives - it helps us all do the same!

Promises of the new website are truly not in vain....it is coming! I suppose we have been a bit busy with a few other things in the meantime :)

Kidical Mass & Tumacacori Road Race - check! First weekend in March has gone, and would not have been possible without the help of so many of you! Your willingness to contribute back to the community does get noticed and appreciated, and direclty results back in the cool things that El Grupo is able to offer you all!

Of course...more help is needed! Please, please sign up to help out for the
  • Tucson Bicycle Classic - March 14-16th - Sign up to volunteer here - in particular wheel support drivers are needed and motorcycle lead drivers on Saturday and Sunday
  • El Grupo's Bicycle Scavenger Hunt - April 12th
  • Luna Lake Bike Tour - May 23-26th (thank you to all who have offered to help out - there is still room for more help and more details will come to you soon!)
Events Upcoming...

ALL girls on the team are invited and expected to participate - we can all gain from this regardless of where we are starting from! Moms of El Grupo riders are welcome to join us, as well. We will meet at Fitworks (5th Ave & Broadway) with bicycles and ride nearby for skills work and finish with a Q & A at Fitworks. Should be a super fun time!

Old Pueblo Grand Prix! Saturday, March 8th - All of El Grupo's Men 3/4 racers will get to race on the same course as the pros that night! Come out to cheer them on and for an awesome night of professional crit racing in downtown Tucson! El Grupo ladies will be hosting a WoCAA Women's Welcome Tent, as well.

Old Pueblo Grand FUNdo! Sunday, March 9th - Ride distances along the Santa Cruz river path for the whole family! We will all be meeting up at Mercado San Agustin with the Mayor by 8:30am and some will join this ride, while others may split off to do other training rides. AZ State Champ Crit Race - Sunday, March 30th - Phoenix We will need some coordination and help from parents and coaches to make this happen (if riders want to go) as Ignacio & Daniela will be in San Dimas.

As usual, more details will be posted on the blog in the coming days/weeks about all of these...

In The News

You may have seen it on the news, facebook, or even been at the clubhouse when we all found out - El Grupo was selected as a beneficiary for Angel Charity for Children, Inc.!!!

What does this mean? It means that one of the most prestigious funding sources and selection committees in Southern Arizona recognizes the good work that El Grupo is doing with youth in Tucson!

It also means that we get funding for NEW staff positions starting in 2015 & 2016. We got funded at the $100,000 level split over 2 years for program growth! We will be collaborating with Angel Charity for the coming years to raise these funds and be able to spread the word about El Grupo.

This is a HUGE accomplishment and honor - and many thanks goes to those who helped to present (Julia, Cathy Franklin, Alex, Jessica Harris, Steve Wilson); those who provided amazing photos (Kathleen, Damion); and those who helped to get the clubhouse in order to be presented (Ron Harris and others).

Food Conspiracy Coop just released a great article on El Grupo here in their bimonthly newsletter. Page 7
