A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR | Dear CADA Supporters, I hope 2024 is treating you well so far! As we embark on a new year, I want to take a moment to share some important updates, express our gratitude, and discuss what the year ahead holds for CADA.
Updates from the Movement: Looking back on 2023, we can proudly say that our collective efforts have led to several positive legislative changes. However, in the midst of significant | | legislative achievements, our movement faces financial challenges as victim service agencies across the state experience funding cuts. CADA has not been immune to these funding challenges. In recent years, because of a lack of funding, we have been forced to cut our violence prevention program, our offender education program, and have decided not to re-hire for a number of positions that have turned over. In November, we saw a 21-bed domestic violence shelter close in Hastings. At the same time as our movement is grappling with this funding crisis, we are witnessing the highest number of domestic-related homicides during my time in the field. In the face of our movement's financial challenges and the alarming rise in domestic-related homicides, our supporters’ unwavering commitment stands as a beacon of hope.
Gratitude for Your Support: Amidst these difficulties, I remain extremely grateful for the incredible leaders, advocates, directors, and supporters within our movement. Against all odds, you continue to make a positive impact every day. Your unwavering commitment is evident in your daily efforts to support survivors and foster change. I’m constantly impressed with the amazing work our staff and advocates do day in and day out – bringing empathy, kindness, and energy to their work with survivors and to our workplace culture. CADA’s staff, board, and supporters have responded admirably to our call for engagement. Amidst the difficulties we face, your dedication to supporting survivors and fostering change shines brightly, embodying the resilience and strength that propels us forward. We are deeply grateful for the tireless efforts and heartfelt support of our leaders, advocates, directors, and supporters, as you continue to be the driving force behind our impactful work.
What Lies Ahead: Looking forward, I know that our team will continue to stand steadfastly with victims and survivors. We will remain nimble and adapt to this ever-changing landscape while being fiscally responsible. We will remain creative and dream of new ways to function as an organization and help those who come to CADA for assistance. We will remain fierce in our advocacy for individuals and our movement as a whole. We will remain committed to our core values – anti-oppression, community, survivor-centered, stewardship, and dignity.
In closing, I want to again express deep appreciation for the dedication of our advocates, who show up every day for survivors, our mission, and each other. Your commitment does not go unnoticed, and it is the bedrock of our movement.
As we confront the challenges ahead, let us remember the strength that lies in our unity. Together, we can overcome obstacles, build a stronger community, and continue to make a meaningful impact.
With gratitude, Jason Mack Executive Director

Thanks to the kindness of our Elf crew, we were able to bring joy, smiles, and lots of happy tears to so many people this holiday season!
