A global update on awareness and support

Personal Fundraising Highlight
David & Theresa Wilson lived in Singapore from 2008-2010 and took one of their first family holidays to Cambodia. Shortly after that trip, they were introduced to CFC and have been loyal supporters ever since. Now living in Illinois, the Wilsons are returning to Siem Reap this June. They have initiated a personal fundraising campaign to help augment the scope of their service projects, many of which will focus on environmental issues at school campuses - recycling bins, sustainable gardens and improvements to existing water filtration systems. If you'd like to donate to their campaign, please click here.

2017 Chairman's Award
We are so very pleased to announce Edna Cooper as the recipient of the 2017 Chairman's Award for exemplary volunteer service. Edna has been a stalwart supporter of CFC since the early days in Singapore when she served on the Board as its first Treasurer. Through countless other roles and fundraising efforts, she continues to inspire everyone with her leadership, teamwork and 'take charge approach' to getting things accomplished.

Edna's energy, ideas and enthusiasm have helped to shape CFC into the organization it is today. She remains steadfast in searching for creative ways to raise funds and improve many CFC processes. Recent projects focused on managing CFC's Charity Navigator readiness and exploring crowd sourcing options for long-term donation and endowment efforts.

In 2014, she assumed the leadership role for the California chapter and has been an integral part of its success. She has worked to engage with the community and school networks and local media. The San Francisco Charity Gala held in March 2016 was one of the best events in CFC history, and her leadership made all the difference!

Looking beyond the tangible contributions she has made over the years, Chairman Bill Amelio notes that Edna's "continued involvement with the Singapore team keeps our original roots connected, engaged and enthusiastic in the new global CFC world we live in today." This past February, she co-led a group of 'first-timers' on a service trip to Siem Reap, helping to keep CFC and Cambodia present in the minds of many.

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to you, Edna, on this well deserved recognition!

DC Chapter hosts an evening of Cambodian delights
An hour before guests arrived on May 4th, the Shopkeepers retail space in Washington, DC was transformed into a hip, Cambodian-inspired 'pop-up' to benefit CFC students. Shopkeepers owner Seda Nak and her husband Chef Erik Bruner-Yang (pictured at right with CFC Founder Jamie Amelio) were the creative inspirations behind the event that brought together an all-star team of Washington's culinary talent--Mixologists Derek Brown and Gina Chersevani, and Chefs Kwame Onwuachi and James Wozniuk--to 'wine and dine' the guests.

The Shopkeepers space was packed with CFC supporters, old and new, who enjoyed Cambodian cultural performances by Phounam Pin, Davine Ker, Dira Biv, Sue Jane Tan, Annong Phan, Alysse Kanal-Scott and her lovely parents, while sampling signature dishes and drinks like Khmer short rib curry, black bass amok dumplings and "Whiskey Cambodias."

A huge shout out to Chapter Leader and Board Member Liz King (at right with comedian Davine Ker) for her vision, organization and leadership in creating this beautiful event. Thanks to the generosity of all who attended and all who contributed to the evening, the event raised enough money to fund 100 CFC students for an entire school year.
That's quite an achievement, DC!

If you missed the event this year, never fear. Plans are underway for another next year, or you can attend one of the monthly gatherings at Maketto, DC's popular Cambodian restaurant owned by Seda Nak and Erik Bruner-Yang. Next on the calendar is:

Austin supporters gather at Mustang Waters Ranch
On a beautiful Saturday evening in mid-May, seventy Austin CFC supporters came together for a sunset gathering to celebrate CFC's 14 years of caring. Hosted by Chairman Bill Amelio and CEO and Founder Jamie Amelio (pictured at right with former UN Ambassador Sichan Siv), the event was a blend of familiar and new faces, and an introduction to the new Lost Oak Lodge at Mustang Waters Ranch. Guests enjoyed cocktails, a country buffet and entertaining music, and the event raised close to $11,000 in support of CFC schools and programs.

Thank you to everyone who attended!
CFC at the United Nations
CFC UN Youth Representative Sharmishta Sivaramakrishnan (at right) spoke at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on May 10th for a panel entitled "The Role for Youth & Appropriate Technology to Achieve SDG2: Innovations & Participatory Assessments." The panel was part of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)'s Commission on Science, Technology and Development (CSTD). Exploring the link between technology and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the event focused on the important role that youth play as innovators and the first adopters of technology. Her remarks highlighted specific aspects of CFC's investment in technology as part of its educational model, including a focus on skills soft and hard skills training, our high school robotics team, and our integration of STEM and ESL curriculum.
Thank you for raising CFC's awareness in such influential circles!

Singapore supporters sweat it out for CFC
On April 22nd, F45 Amoy sponsored a workout session for twenty fit CFC supporters who proved that they will stop at nothing to help CFC students. All proceeds benefited CFC, and participants also received free coffee and the chance to win a $50 lunch voucher from Sarnie's Cafe. The session raised heart rates and over $1000 for CFC!
Thank you F45 Amoy and everyone who participated!

The sky was the limit for these two CFC supporters! On May 21st, Paul and Renee France successfully completed Singapore's National Vertical Marathon. Their challenge was to race to the finish line by climbing 37 stories up and 13 stories down at the South Beach Tower in downtown Singapore. As an added incentive for their months of training, they got family and friends to help raise $580 for CFC!  And, what a view at the finish line!

Thank you for taking your support to such great heights!
Looking for a fun volunteer opportunity in the US?
It's that time of year again! We're looking for help representing CFC at Combined Federal Campaign events held at various locations throughout the United States between September and December.

The mission of the Combined Federal Campaign is to promote and support philanthropy for all federal employees, and CFC has been fortunate to be included in these fairs for the past several years. We need individuals to attend these events with support from our current CFC team. The commitment is only a few hours and CFC will provide training and all display materials (brochures, banners, etc). These fairs directly relate to funds for CFC, and they are a fun and easy way to get involved.

If you can help, please contact us at volunteers@caringforcambodia.org.
Thank you in advance!
The Gift of Giving
Recent contributions prove that CFC volunteer efforts come in all sizes
and from all corners of the world! Thank you!

Dental hygiene supplies (Singapore)...
Thank you to Yvonne Han for mobilizing her Smile Team colleagues at Unilever to donate toothbrushes and toothpaste in honor of World Health Day (March 20th). CFC Regional Director Tracy Dowell is shown at right collecting the items from the Unilever offices. CFC provides every one of our 6,600 students with three toothbrushes every year, so our dental hygiene supplies are in constant need of replenishment.

Korean pop fan club generates momentum (Singapore)...Thank you to Ain Rcy who showed incredible initiative in researching educational non-profits with operations in Cambodia, and then organizing a fundraising campaign among an online fan club (TEAMBAPSG) for Korean boy band, B.A.P. (Best Absolute Perfect). CFC was the fortunate recipient of these efforts. The campaign raised USD $500 which Ain personally delivered the funds to CFC while on a trip to Siem Reap.
