Dear Caring Friends ~
I have just returned from Singapore and Cambodia, and once again, my heart is full of hope. Every time I go, I encounter something new. While in Singapore, I spent a beautiful evening on a boat to raise money for CFC, and I witnessed some powerhouse people who are committed to help us provide our CFC students encouragement, love and financial resources. With the support from our generous donors, I believe we will build an endowment fund to help secure a bright future for these incredible kids.

Siem Reap was simply outstanding. Thanks to Board Member Cuong Do, “operation clean up” was well underway with important maintenance work nearly completed at every CFC campus. Fourteen years of educational excellence needs some sprucing up every once in a while! Our Cambodian team continues to run things on their own, and I am very proud of how they are leading their country towards a more hopeful future.

My wish is that every single person who has helped CFC over the years could walk on those campuses, and feel the energy and love from the children, their families, and the community. If you haven’t yet booked a trip, you should really try to do so. You'll be amazed!

Orange blessings for a wonderful Spring ahead!

Jamie Amelio, CEO and Founder
Introducing our new
   Director of Finance
We are pleased to welcome Lori Soenksen as CFC's new Director of Finance! In this role, Lori will assume all financial, audit and accounting responsibilities for CFC's operations. Lori and her family spent three years in Singapore on an ex-pat assignment from 2012-2015. While living in Asia, she was introduced to CFC and participated in a family service trip with her husband and their three daugthers in the Spring of 2014. Now living back in the United States, Lori is very pleased to stay involved with CFC in this new capacity. Her past experiences and strong financial and accounting skillsets will serve her well as Director of Finance, and she undoubtedly prove an invaluable asset to the organization.
Welcome to the team, Lori!
Cruising for Cambodia raises the sails for education
CFC's latest fundraising event, Cruising for Cambodia, promised to be a unique experience, and on Saturday, February 25th, everyone who attended certainly enjoyed a truly magical evening. Guests boarded the luxurious superyacht, The Royal Albatross, and set sail from Sentosa Island for a romantic sunset cruise on the South China Sea. The mood was celebratory as everyone toasted the waves of progress CFC continues to make in educating the lives of thousands of Cambodian students.

CFC Founder Jamie Amelio and Chairman Bill Amelio welcomed Singapore supporters for an evening that included cocktails, dinner, dancing, and a enticing array of live and silent auction items. CFC was grateful to share the evening with so many caring supporters, including British High Commissioner to Singapore, Scott Wightman, and his wife, Anne. Longtime supporter Savady Yem shared a poignant account of his family's story of survival and tragedy under the Khmer Rouge regime, and offered hope for the future of his country.

Special thanks are due to event organizers Denise Palladino ****, Tracy Dowell, Aaron Simmons and Immie Amundsen for all their work in orchestrating this special evening; to Captain Duncan and the incredible crew of The Royal Albatross; and to all the generous sponsors and auction contributors who helped us reach our goals.

It was definitely an evening to remember!
CFC CEO and Founder returns to Singapore
Timed with the Cruising for Cambodia event, CEO and Founder Jamie Amelio spent several days in Singapore last month. She enjoyed personal interactions at several smaller gatherings with CFC supporters, volunteers, and our talented international teacher training team. Her days were productive and full with time spent reconnecting, strategizing, and collaborating with our Singapore team before heading on to Siem Reap.

Come back soon Jamie!
Update from Washington, DC Chapter
Spring promises to be a busy month in Washington, DC with good food and fun being common themes to this chapter's gatherings!

Fun and laughter continues at "Comedy for a Cause"....
Chapter members continue to enjoy Davine Ker's monthly "First Tuesday" comedy showcases at Maketto restaurant in Washington, DC. Proceeds from past gatherings have raised enough money so that needed water filtration systems can be installed at CFC preschools. The next comedy showcase is Tuesday, April 4th from 7-10pm. Join us! Pictured enjoying last month's gathering (from left to right) are Arianna Choing, Chapter Leader and Board Member Liz King, Davine Ker, Megan Smith, and Board Member Hong Choing.

Mark your calendars for May 4th event...
You won't want to miss CFC's May 4th unique fundraiser at Shopkeepers Gallery in Washington, DC, an interactive showroom where trendy boutique finds and gourmet food come together. Thanks once again to the generous, ongoing support of Seda Nak and Chef Erik Bruner-Yang of Maketto fame, the evening will feature a Cambodian menu created by Erik, and a line-up of Cambodian artists curated by Seda. Tickets will go on sale later this month, so stay tuned for more details. For those interested in helping with the planning, please contact us at volunteers@caringforcambodia.org. Get inspired to cook your own Cambodian delicacies...
"Cooking the Cambodian Way" is back in stock on Amazon (click here to purchase)!  The popular cookbook by Narin Seng Jameson, a DC Chapter leader and unflagging CFC supporter, is now in its third printing. To learn more about Narin and her passion for traditional Cambodian recipes, listen to her recent interview on the World Bank's Bookmark podcast series (click here).  All proceeds from cookbook sales continue to benefit CFC. Thank you Narin!
CFC Day Photo Contest Winners
To celebrate CFC Day 2017 and fourteen years of caring, our supporters around the globe were asked to submit photographs that best embodied this year's theme - "Helping Hands". Winners in three categories each received $50 to be donated to the school or CFC program of their choice. Winning photographs will also be printed on canvas and displayed on the Wall of Caring at the Art Gallery in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Proceeds from the sale of the winning canvases will be donated to CFC.

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all who participated!
Donation request for CFC preschool classrooms
Typically, CFC requests and accepts in-kind donations of classroom mateirals, hygiene supplies and clothing items through our monthly Calendar of Giving campaigns. This month, however, we have a special request from Chan Vandy, CFC's Early Childhood Education Manager. Our preschool classrooms are in need of donations of Duplo building blocks (see example). About twice the size of regular Legos, Duplos are easier for young children to handle and less likely to be swallowed. If you are able to donate any new or gently-used Duplos, please contact us at volunteers@caringforcambodia.org. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
