Never Let Me Lose My Childlike Heart
Article Image
Dear Friend,
On Easter Sunday, I was talking to my three-year-old grandnephew, Kellan, as he was playing with my sister Mary’s cat. I asked Kellan if he had any pets. He responded, “Yes, I have two pets.” I was a bit surprised, because I had not heard of any pets arriving on the scene. His parents, Sarah and Chris, have enough on their hands with three little boys and a recent move into a new home. I innocently asked him, “What kind of pets?” He responded with great confidence, “We have two dinosaurs.”

 Javier's Story
'I Put It in God's Hands'—Javier's Story
An act of kindness experienced when he was a child gives a young man the courage, years later, to comfort another person in a time of need.

Javier's story is part of a new video series from RENEW International entitled Turning Points: Witness Stories. The videos offer a way to help parishioners start a dialogue about faith with family and friends who have left the Church or who are religious “seekers.”
A video series is also available in Spanish as Cambios de rumbos: Historias de testigos.

Small Community Ideas that Work: Relationships
Building Relationships
Small communities are the heart of the parish community, and relationships are the heart of small communities. Staying in touch—connecting with others, especially when there isn’t a scheduled meeting on the calendar—reveals the sincerity and commitment that you bring to your relationships.

On May 11, the global Church celebrates the 51st World Day of Prayer for Vocations with the theme: Vocations, Witness to the Truth. In his statement on this occasion, Pope Francis recognizes the many shapes that one’s vocation can take, but affirms the centrality of Christ in all: “Therefore every vocation, even within the variety of paths, always requires an exodus from oneself in order to center one’s life on Christ and on his Gospel.”
Renewing the Priestly Heart
On this day and every day, RENEW International prays for all Catholics in their vocations and for those discerning a vocation. In a special way we offer our prayers for the many priests around the world. In our work with parishes, we observe how priests with zeal for their vocation can inspire others to join in the work and joys of evangelization. Our special resource, Renewing the Priestly Heart, encourages meaningful conversation in supportive and prayerful small groups of priests on today’s priestly life. In the process, priests build fraternal bonds and renew their own hearts and spirits for Christ’s mission.
