God's Light Shines on a Soccer Field
When two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in their midst. Matthew 18:20

Dear Friend,
On a warm August evening, candles lit the sky in prayer. I live at Our Lady of Peace Convent in New Providence, New Jersey. Supporters and neighbors gathered on the soccer field next to our house for a prayer vigil for four-year-old Brooke Healey. Last year, Brooke was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. The candles lit up the field. I was so touched by the crowds—people of all ages and especially families with small children.

Hitting the Books with Campus RENEW
College years can be time of spiritual growth
When summer turns to fall, many young people return to campus for another year of study, fun, and activities. College days can be exhilarating and educational, but unfamiliar settings and new people can also cause young adults to question beliefs as they search for purpose in their lives. Sometimes, students find that faith and spiritual practice can be lost in this transition.

Campus RENEW provides a bridge from the faith of childhood to the seeking of young adulthood. Offered through Catholic campus ministry programs, Campus RENEW brings students, faculty, and staff together for faith-based discussions of life, work, and relationships. In gatherings of small Christian communities, participants encounter God, and explore ways to be of service to others and have a deep spiritual and prayerful life.

Member of ARISE Group Inspired to Join
Mission Helping Families in Tanzania
“Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these … you did for me’’ — Matthew 25:40
A man participating in an ARISE small group in the Diocese of London, Canada learned from another member about Chalice, a Catholic group that assists the poor in Asia, Haiti, Latin America, Ukraine, and Africa. After visiting the Chalice website, he decided to make monthly donations to sponsor two children. But when Chalice informed him of an opportunity to do more—to join a support team with a medical mission to Tanzania—he signed up and traveled to the East African country in August 2012. He recalls it as a moving and inspiring experience, and he plans to go again.

'How Can I Use My Gifts?'—Barb's Story
Barb grew up in a traditional Italian-American Catholic home but became distanced from the Church after being disillusioned during her young adult days. Years later, when she saw a newspaper ad inviting inactive Catholics to a local parish “no questions asked,” she gaves it a try.
To hear Barb's story, click here.
Barb's story is part of a new video series from RENEW International entitled Turning Points: Witness Stories. The videos offer a way to help parishioners start a dialogue about faith with family and friends who have left the Church or who are religious “seekers.” The video series is also available in Spanish as Cambios de rumbos: Historias de testigos.

Pope Pius XII asked for advice, and he got it. After hearing from the bishops, Pius XII in 1950 declared this mystery, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as a dogmatic teaching of the Church. To read more about the Assumption, click here.
