40-Day Lenten Challenge: 'Mercy-ing'
Dear Friend,
 Article Image
I am always up for a challenge. To kick off the New Year, one of my RENEW colleagues, Eartha, invited everyone on our staff to participate in a 30-day challenge. All of us were free to select any challenges that would help us become healthier people. As I reflect on my participation in the 30-day health challenge and how it has helped me to jumpstart living a healthier life in 2016, I have begun to think about Lent as an opportunity to jumpstart living a more merciful life. For Lent, I invite you to join me in a 40-day challenge: mercy-ing.

San Angelo to Begin Be My Witness
The Diocese of San Angelo will be the first in the country to launch RENEW International’s newest program developed to bolster parish evangelization. Entitled Be My Witness: Formation for the New Evangelization, this process draws its inspiration from Pope Francis’ landmark document on evangelization, The Joy of the Gospel. The entire process is designed to develop vibrant parishes that are “centers of constant missionary outreach.”

Small-Community Ideas that Work:
Travel the Way of the Cross Together
Stations of the CrossAs we enter the holy season of Lent the Church calls us to prepare our hearts for the celebration of our redemption through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We come together as Church in special ways as a reminder that this is a time set apart.

Creation at the Crossroads introduced at
USCCB's Catholic Social Ministry Gathering
Creation at the Crossroads was introduced to a receptive audience at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Catholic Social Ministry Gathering in Washington, D.C., Jan. 23-25. This new resource, based on Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’ (On Care for Our Common Home), was created by RENEW International in conjunction with GreenFaith and one of the conference sponsors, the Catholic Climate Covenant. Underscoring the importance of the topic, a historic storm dropped nearly 30 inches of snow on the nation’s capital during the conference. While this kept many at home, those unable to attend kept up with sessions through live streams and interactive video conferencing.
