The Pope Wants a 'Patient, Persevering' Church
Sr. Terry
Dear Friend,
Pope Francis calls on every local Christian community to embrace the joy of the Gospel, send forth evangelizing disciples, and so bring to life his vision of a renewed and dynamic Church.

2014 Annual Report cover
RENEW International's 2014 Annual Report
We are grateful to all who have contributed to our ministry as we help people encounter Christ anew and revitalize parish life. Your contributions help us to respond to new pastoral needs, serve poorer parishes in the United States and mission countries, publish our materials in multiple languages and in large print, share the Gospel through new media, and fund programs for youth and young adults, as well as those serving in the military.
As you read our 2014 Annual Report, rejoice with us in what God is doing with your help through RENEW International.

Fr. Bruce Nieli CSP
Catholic Action, an inspiration for the founding of RENEW, helped lay the groundwork for an emphasis on lay involvement in Church life, but lately there has been a lull. Fr. Bruce Nieli, CSP, says now is the time for a revival and renewal.

Paul VI Opened Wide the Arms of the Church
Beatification set for Oct. 19
Paul VI

Pope Paul, by contrast, appeared studious and reserved and did not generate the transcendent kind of popular excitement that has surrounded other pontiffs—including Pope Francis.

But this quiet man arguably had a greater impact on the Church than all but a handful of those who have occupied the Chair of Peter; some would argue that Paul had the greatest impact of all.

Small-Community Ideas That Work:
The Art and Skill of Listening
Have you ever been talking and wondered if the other person was listening? It’s often not hard to tell: there is no direct eye contact or the arms are folded over. There’s also the absence of interjections—“uh-huh,” “yes”—and when the opportunity for laughter in response to something silly and disconnected is met with dead silence, you know the other is not listening.

Take a moment on Sunday, October 26 to speak a word of gratitude and encouragement to a priest in your parish or family on this national day dedicated to priests.
In 2003, the last Sunday of October was established a day to affirm the many devoted priests serving in parishes across the country. Priesthood Sunday is coordinated and sponsored by the USA Council of Serra International, a Catholic organization of lay men and women dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
RENEW has resources with reflections and prayers centered on priestly life today that would make thoughtful gifts for favorite priests. Use Promo Code PriestAB14 to save almost 50 percent on the Renewing the Priestly Heart Audio Book.
