On June 23, 2012 I will be running Leg 5 of the K-100 Relay. This leg of the relay is the toughest. It's hilly with a number of segments at a 7% grade. Runners will gain 450m over the length of this route; 250m are packed into 6.8 km. The road peaks at Highwood pass, 2206m above sea level.
Most of you will know, I’m a pretty experienced runner and this is by far the hardest run I have ever tackled. This year I will be running to raise funds for KidSport - an organization that helps low income kids to play sport - a very worthy cause! I do, however have another very important reason for running...
In June of 2009, a good friend, Dale Masson, died while running in the K-100 relay. Dale was a husband, father, lawyer, elite athlete and a friend to many as he was such a fun guy to be around. I am running with his wife, Tanya and her friends and family to honor Dale’s memory. Dale and his brother were raised by a single mother and he grew up to be a high level athlete – playing junior hockey and playing for the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Dale certainly would have supported an organization like KidSport.
It would be wonderful if you would support me in this fundraising effort! For every $250 we raise we are able to create a season of sport for a young athlete - an athlete that otherwise would not have the chance to be a part of the team. No donation is too small and all donations of $25+ will receive a tax receipt.
Thanks in advance for any support you are able to provide!
